Bounce back from rock bottom ~
Bounce back from rock bottom ~ Très heureux Wow I am writing again. yay!!! I am really excited today because I achieved everything that I set out to do. Let me give my highlights for the week. Learn French: So, I decided to start learning french and I have been pretty serious with it. This week, my goal was to complete 75 tasks which comprises of (Basic 1, Greetings and Basic2) in Duolingo. Today is Friday and I have already completed all my tasks and completed 4 stories. I feel super pumped. I think so far I will rate myself as follows: Writing: 9/10 Reading: 8/10 Speaking: 5/10, Listening: 6/10.
My spoken french is just terrible. I'm not sure how best to go about improving it and also loosen my tongue. I'm usually certain of what to say in my head but somehow the pronunciation never sounds right. Currently acing the reading and writing tasks and excited to learn more. More updates to come. Refresh my Programming Skills: Last year I was so depressed for almost the entire year and barely wrote any code. Since I could not concentrate to code, I decided to venture into other things. I made some investments, learned how to trade in cryptocurrencies and started fashion design(my clothes only). Anyways despite all I did, nothing really made me happy like when I was programming. So I decided take my life back and not let depression take my life away from me. My coming back into the programming world has been a really funny ride. I remember the day I picked up my laptop to code, to my greatest surprise, I was so blank. I could not remember anything not even the basics. I initially freaked out. It felt as though the only thing I really knew how to do had just left me and I was empty. It felt like I had not written any code before in my entire life. Sincerely I don't know how to explain that feeling but it was terrible. Anyways, I decided to start learning from scratch and to start contributing to open source to help me properly read other peoples code and navigate large code bases while I contribute. I started contributing to Oppia, they use Angular and Python and it has been great so far. This year, I decided to pick up a full course that will take me from start to finish in full stack development so I can properly refresh my memory while I build things. So I found a free full stack course created by the University of Helsinki. My plan for this week is to complete up to part 5. So far, I have completed slightly above part 4 and still hoping I get to part 5 before Sunday. Job search: I have been looking for a job in Canada. Sincerely the journey has not been easy. I started looking from the last week in December and still yet to get any job. With help from my friend, I restructured my CV this week and have so far sent out at least 10 applications this week but have only gotten mails to say it my applications have been received. Fingers crossed and I'll keep you updated with that but will still send out more applications before Sunday. A friend told me I need to send out 20 applications per day 😲 and I was wondering if that's how people look for jobs. Maybe I have just been lucky and favoured. I am actively looking for free certifications 😃 for now that will make me stand out. I want to do things differently this year and move up in my career. I feel I have been stagnant for way too long. When I see how far others have gone, it sometimes makes me feel bad but then I snap out of it and tell myself that I will not let where I have been define me because I will fly so high. Side note: Depression is so real; please do not mind the fact that people smile and assume all is fine. My last plan was to write a-little which I am doing now. Will write another one next week. Cheers
